  • In 2004, a small group of Westside residents formed the Friends of Westwood Library and proundly hosted a Grand Opening Day celebration for the library in 2005. Over the past few years, the group has grown, as has the membership to the Friends of Westwood Library. As a 501 (c) (3) corporation, donations and membership dues to the Friends of Westwood Library are tax deductible.

We have been able to support the Westwood branch, keeping it one of the most vibrant branches of the Los Angeles Public Library System. Today we underwrite multiple programs every month for children, teens, and adults, including several on-going long-term series. We continually purchase books, equipment and other materials for the branch, supplementing city funds.

We also host used book sales, coordinate volunteers at the branch, and provide community outreach though bulletins and newsletters.

The Mermaid and the Messerschmitt War Through a Woman's Eyes 1939-1940
On March 4, 2010, the Friends of Westwood Library put on the first of a series of Book Talks: interesting presentations by authors followed by a coffee and dessert reception in the library. Our first author was actually a publisher, Terry Tegnazian, who discussed the work of late author Rulka Langer," The Mermaid and the Messerschmitt War Through a Woman's Eyes 1939-1940." Ms. Tegnazian's discussion of the invasion of Poland through the eyes of the author, a Warsaw career woman, wife and mother of two small children was riveting and informative. We plan to host a few more of these wonderful events throughout the year and hope you can join us.
